Our bus training will help prepare you for the PCV category D test. Whether you plan to drive a minibus, bendy bus, double-decker, single-decker bus or limousine, we will help you obtain the necessary skills to safely operate these vehicles.
Bus Training Requirements
In order to qualify for the training course, you will need to meet the following requirements:
1. Be at least 17 years old
2. Already hold a Category B (car) driving licence
3. Attend and pass a PCV medical examination (we will arrange a medical for you at no extra cost).
D1 or D Licence?
A category D1 licence allows you to drive a vehicle with:
- No more than 16 passenger seats
- A maximum length of 8 meters
- A trailer up to 750kg
The process of gaining a full D1 licence is exactly the same as a D licence with the only difference being the vehicle you’ll be driving during your practical training and test (module 3). Our D1 vehicles are both automatic and manual being just the right size to help you get used to driving and navigating through traffic easily. The visibility is excellent and you can very quickly get to grips with the switch gear which is very similar to any common road car.
Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)
If you are considering to work professionally as a PCV driver for a bus or coach operator then you will need to hold a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) card after you have completed your bus training. Although the Driver CPC became an obligatory qualification in 2014 for professional LGV and PCV licence holders there is still a great deal of confusion about the qualification.
Below is a guide to gaining a Driver CPC once you have successfully completed module 1 and 3:
- Driver CPC module 2 case study multiple choice test
- Driver CPC module 4 practical demonstration test
